Of course those are my very specific memories but I bet you just thought of some memories of your own. It’s remembering being a five year old kid and having your birthday party in the McDonald’s Play Place and hoping that you get the Barbie Happy Meal Toy you need to complete your collection. It’s comfort food on a long road trip that helps you feel closer to home, when you are in an uncomfortable place and just want to be home already. No matter where you go you can always find a McDonald’s. It’s a constant that you can always count on. I’ve changed my eating habits and admit that I do not frequent the golden arches as much as I used to but it will always be a place I think of fondly. Whether you love or hate McDonald’s you got to admit that it is an American icon and is ingrained in our culture and collective history. If you are traveling through the area I recommend that your rest stop be the Big Mac Museum, because it will probably be the most interesting rest stop of your trip.
